Winemaker Notes:

The 2021 Allusion is a full-bodied, richly textured wine with a dense, complex core. It has beautifully delineated aromatics of blackberry, blueberry, dark plum, pencil lead, gravel, cedar, eucalyptus, and wild mint. The wine is well structured with a juicy succulence and lavishly opulent fruit character. The silky, refined tannins frame precisely delineated flavors of blackberry, cassis, black plum, tar, mint, vanilla, dark chocolate, and espresso. There are also gentle nuances of violets, Asian spice, and wild sage. The refreshing acidity provides a high-toned lift on the long, vibrant finish which resonates with notes of violets, gravel, and cassis. Properly cellared, the wine should reach maturity in 8-10 years and provide excellent drinking for 20+ years. - Billo Naravane, MW

critics’ notes:

Checking in at 73% Merlot and 27% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Allusion from RR Poet boasts a dark red ruby core moving to a medium reddish rim. Crème de cassis, sandalwood, damp earth, green peppercorn, and pencil shavings notes combine with luscious blackberry, huckleberry, and blue plum fruit flavors to produce a scintillating bottle of wine that deserves your attention. It’s a full-bodied Merlot but is still light on its feet with a voluptuous presence with terrific mid-palate depth and a wonderful tannic structure that keeps you coming back for more. Give this a year or two in bottle before enjoying it for the optimal experience. Highly recommended and editor’s choice. 98 Points - International Wine Report (Jeremy Young)

The Merlot-dominated 2021 Allusion is based on 73% Merlot and 27% Cabernet Franc from a site in the Rattlesnake Hills region of the Columbia Valley. It has a terrific nose of ripe black cherry and plum fruits as well as subtle chocolate, leafy herbs, and truffly earth. It would easily pass for an impressive Pomerol and is medium to full-bodied, has a round, layered mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It will evolve gracefully over the coming decade. It's a worthy follow on to the beautiful 2019. 93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
