$45.00

Catchlight wines are limited-production, estate-grown wines. As an under label to our flagship RR Poet wines, the Catchlight wines are made in a more approachable style and offered at a more widely attainable price point with outstanding quality-to-price ratio (QPR). These wines are meant to introduce you to the wider house style at a very affordable price. As with all our wines, Catchlight wines reflect a singular vision - to express the very best qualities of a distinctive place - our very own PineBrake Vineyard. The 2019 “Reflection” is a blend of 60% Merlot, and 40% Cabernet Franc, reminiscent of the classic wines of the right bank Bordeaux region, but certainly exhibiting and highlighting the characteristics of our own great winegrowing region.

Winemaker Tasting Notes

Dark ruby-purple in color with beautiful, dominant aromatics of black currant, black plum, violets, and gravel with nuances of smoldering incense, allspice, and wild mint. Rich and savory on the palate with notes of black currant, black cherry, black plum, espresso, gravel, and gentle overtones of bell pepper, violets, and eucalyptus. The wine is more Old World in style, showing finesse and elegance over fruit ripeness and power. There is a lovely tension between the acidity and tannins that carries through into the long finish. This wine should reach maturity in 6-8 years, and properly cellared, this wine will gracefully evolve for 10+ years. - Billo Naravane, MW

Critics’ Notes & Scores

"The Rattlesnake Hills is a distinctive appellation, and this wine immediately announces its identity. A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, the aromas offer notes of nori, fresh tobacco, green pepper, cherry, raspberry and bittersweet chocolate. The palate is all about the delicacy, purity and restraint of the plump fruit flavors. It's bright and fresh, polished to a fine sheen."

"A blend of 60% Merlot with the remainder Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Catchlight shows off a soft texture with layers of black tea, blackberry compote, mocha and tar flavors. Exuding good length and flavor density this is glorious to enjoy even in its youth. Drink 2021-2031."
